Man tries to kidnap girl in Astoria

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with a possible failed kidnapping attempt in Astoria. The suspect approached a 12-year-old girl at the intersection of 49th Street and Ditmars Boulevard just after 4 p.m. on March 5, and tried to lure her into his light-colored SUV. The girl refused, and the man fled when the girl’s babysitter approached.
