City Comptroller Scott Stringer visited parents and students of P.S. 234 after the first day of school last Thursday.

Children all over the City headed back to school last week, including the students of Astoria’s P.S. 234. City Comptroller Scott Stringer stopped by the school at the end of the day to visit with parents and their children and ask how the first day went.

“My teacher was really nice, but I’m a little shy of the kids,” third grader Maria Lename said. “I’m not really excited about the homework.”

“The first day of school is fun, because you see your friends and your teacher,” her friend Demaine Erebara, a second grader, said. “But nine months? You’ve got to be joking me.”

“There’s no way the first day of school in New York City is not going to be successful,” Stringer said. “I’ve been out today and parents are very excited, kids are very excited.”
