She was one of 23 students from across the country to receive the award, which is based on financial need and academic merit. The recipients are all children of a law enforcement officer or firefighter who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.

“Helping their children better pay for college and complete their higher education is the least we can do to honor the first responders who have given so much to protect us,” NLEAFCF President and Founder Al Kahn said.  “Francesca has demonstrated leadership among her peers and exceptional scholastic achievements and community service. We are proud to be a part of helping Francesca achieve her academic goals.”

Francesca’s father, Anthony Mosomillo, a member of the New York City Police Department assigned to the 67th Precinct, was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1998 when Francesca was only two years old.

Francesca plans to attend Iona College this fall with a major in Criminal Justice. Francesca was a member of the National Honor Society while at the Academy for Careers in Television and Film in Long Island City, as well as Troop Aide to the St. Francis of Assisi Girls Scout program for three years.
