Bareburger will come to former Athens Cafe space

The former space for Athens Cafe will now house organic burger chain Bareburger.

Organic burger chain Bareburger has plans to fill in the now-empty 30th Avenue space that formerly housed Athens Cafe.

Athens Cafe was a longtime staple of the neighborhood, until it closed earlier this month.

Now Bareburger — a chain with locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens — is looking “to inject some new life and an exciting new concept into a space abound with possibilities.”For the burger company, opening in the Astoria location (32-07 30th Ave.) is like coming home. Bareburger first began in Astoria in 2009, when its first location was opened at 33-21 31st Ave.No further details have been divulged on the chain’s plans for the space. Only time will tell if it will live up to the love and fame of Athens Cafe.
