Astoria Most Precious Blood School To Close – Parent Meeting Set For Wednesday

In what some parents of the 191 children at the school see as ‘a total surprise,’ Most Precious Blood School on 37th street off 32nd Avenue in Astoria will close after this school year. Pastor Krlis noted in a January 9th letter that the parish buildings need five million dollars in repairs and enrollment has dropped to a number which is apparently too low to sustain the school. The school has been open for 58 years.

Meeting Set

There is a parent meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th at 7PM at the school auditorium. The mad scramble for parents to enroll their children in neighboring Catholic Diocese schools should begin quite soon. Those schools include St. Francis of Assissi at 21-18 46 St, St. Joseph at 28-46 44 St. and Immaculate Conception at 21-63 29th Street.
