MTA ridership soars in LIC
The MTA is out with a new study which shows a sharp increase in ridership in rapidly-developing LIC.
The study said the number of weekday riders increased by 12% last year, or 1,500 more customers a day, at the Vernon-Jackson 7 stop, and by 9.7% at the Court Sq. E,G,M,7 station.
Despite the influx of new riders in LIC, Queens experienced the least growth of all 5 boroughs, with a 1.9% total increase in weekday ridership, behind Brooklyn (2.7%), Manhattan (2.5%) and the Bronx (2.1%).
Overall, NYC ridership reached the highest levels in 65 years last year, with an average of 5.6 million people taking city subways each weekday.
