Acropolis Gardens restores gas to fourth building

Pols called for restoration of the service at a rally two months ago

After months of finger-pointing and red tape, as previously reported here, four of the eight building at the Acropolis Gardens Co-op in Astoria have gas restored.

“The number one priority of the Board of Acropolis Gardens has been, and is, the health, safety and well being of its residents,” Acropolis Board President Debbie Vazquez said in an email statement. “Our prime goal is getting the gas turned back on as quickly as possible. Every day we have been, and are, ready to work and do our part to restore the gas, but every day Con Edison and the NYC Buildings Department place new roadblocks and obstacles in our path, while totally ignoring the needs of the people who live here.”

The living conditions in the building brought a rally outside with elected officials and Public Advocate Letitia James.

The plan is to restore gas to one building, per week, until all eight have full service restored.
