TONIGHT: Hell Gate Bridge Centennial

gahs-hell-gate-flyerAs the 100th anniversary of the opening of Hell Gate Bridge nears, several groups are honoring one of Astoria’s treasured landmarks with celebratory events.

Tonight, the Greater Astoria Historical Society is hosting an event at 6:30 p.m. at the Broadway office to kick things off.

The event will feature a lecture by Dave “The Bridge Man” Frieder, who is best known for for climbing bridges across the city. Allen Renz, the grandson of Hell Gate Bridge engineer Gustav Lindenthal, will also be in attendance.

To accompany the speaking portion is a photo exhibit of rare pictures that depict the bridge throughout time.

Be sure to join Astorians in celebrating the Hell Gate’s centennial tonight!
