Riders rejoice at W train’s return
Starting today, you can ride the W like it’s 2010.
The local train, which runs from Astoria’ Ditmars Boulevard to Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan, began its operations today.
It was discontinued in 2010 as part of the MTA’s budget cuts.
The N will now run express in Manhattan, and the Q won’t run in Queens altogether. It will be rerouted instead to the new Second Avenue subway line, coming shortly.
Riders took to social media to show their happiness with the W’s triumphant return to the MTA family.
Rode the W train this morning and it was a majestical, otherworldly experience where I didn't have to switch trains!
