For eight weekends between May and September, the N train in Astoria will be closed for track and switch work, the MTA says.

The train will be shut down from 12 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. A free shuttle bus will instead carry passengers along the route from Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard to Queensboro Plaza in both directions.

Here are the weekends affected:

  • May 20-22
  • May 27-30 (Memorial Day weekend)
  • June 3-5
  • August 12-14
  • August 19-21
  • August 26-28
  • September 2-5 (Labor Day weekend)
  • September 9-11

“We strive to be good neighbors while providing safe and reliable service, which is why we scheduled the closures during period of light ridership in order to minimize the impact to customers,” said Acting NYCT President Darryl Irick.

MTA crews will replace all of the switches along a 73-foot span of elevated track. They will also replace track panels and steel girders. The upgrades will reduce the noise on the elevated line, the MTA says.
