Scenes from Friday’s climate rally
On Friday, local elected officials hosted a climate change rally to send off marchers who attended the People’s Climate March in Washington, D.C.
Speakers at the event include Councilman Costa Constantinides, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, State Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas, Forest Hills Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, and representatives from Astoria Park Alliance, Astoria Houses and Global Kids.
The event served as a reminder that residents can take part in local activism as well.
During the event, Girl Scout Troop 4557 helped hand out reusable bags to every participant.
Inside each bag was a “Personal Climate Action Plan” that residents can use to help the environment:
Dozens of residents attended the rally, and many brought their children as well. Never too early to start.
