Powhatan Dems collect 1,000 signatures

The Powhatan and Pocahontas Democratic Club in Astoria collected over 1,000 petition signatures to help secure a place on the ballot for local Democratic candidates.

The collected signatures for Councilman Costa Constantinides, Borough President Melinda Katz, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James and Mayor Bill de Blasio. All are running for re-election.

The club also hosted petition training for new members earlier this month. They gathered signatures at community events, public spaces and by door knocking.

“The enthusiasm we saw from members who enjoyed participating in this grassroots process is great,” said club president Dirk McCall. “Collecting signatures from registered voters in Astoria introduces Powhatan members to their neighbors and brings them closer to the democratic electoral process.”
