Citi Bike coming to Astoria on September 12

Citi BikeAstoria residents will soon have a Citi Bike to ride for work or pleasure.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced today that Citi Bike is coming to Astoria on September 12th as part of its Fall 2017 expansion.

Long Island City, Crown Heights and Prospect Heights in Brooklyn and Harlem are the other neighborhoods getting Citi Bikes.

“With this round of Citi Bike expansion, bike share will now cover more than 30 square miles, with more New Yorkers able to take advantage of this fast, affordable, convenient and sustainable transportation option,” said DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg.

Launched in 2013, Citi Bike usage is continuing to break records. Ten million riders were taken in 2015, and 14 million in 2016. This past June, ridership exceeded 70,000 riders in a single day.

The annual cost of a Citi Bike membership is $163, or $14.95 per month with an annual commitment. NYCHA residents are eligible to receive a discounted $5 per month membership.

Citi Bike now has 10,000 bikes at 600 stations in neighborhoods across Manhattan, Brooklyn and now Astoria.
