3 Free Events at Astoria Park This Week
August is here and unfortunately that means September is right around the corner. However, there are still tons of free events that you can enjoy this month to make this summer memorable. And luckily for you, Astoria Park is offering these free events during the week:
1. 2018 Movies on the Waterfront Series: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Monday, August 6th
8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Bring a chair and watch this ’80s sci-fi classic tonight at the Astoria Park Great Lawn. Just make sure to keep cool and stay hydrated, a heat advisory has been issued for NYC until Tuesday night.
Summary: A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world.
2. Waterfront Concert Series: Jazz & Swing – Fleur Seule
Thursday, August 9th
7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Enjoy a live jazz and swing performance at the Great Lawn by Fleur Seula, an authentic 1940s jazz, swing, and ballroom band based in New York.
3. NYRR Open Run: Astoria Park
Saturday, August 11th
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Start your morning with a community run or walk around the Astoria Park Running Track as you enjoy beautiful views of the Triborough Bridge and the surrounding park.
About: Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-led running initiative bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks, across all five boroughs of NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on the park, but the courses are between 2.5 and 3 miles long.
Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home – bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome!
