Jazz performance this weekend at George’s Restaurant

Attention jazz enthusiasts! This weekend, enjoy high-quality jazz music at George’s Restaurant at Kaufman Astoria Studios.

This Saturday, George’s will feature a musical performance by the Richard Baratta Trio, with sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The group consists of Richard Baratta on drums, Dave Kikoski on piano, and Michael Goetz on bass.

Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, Baratta has co-produced various films such as “Maid in Manhattan,” “Mona Lisa Smile,” “Freedomland,” “Across The Universe” and “The Taking of Pelham, 1 2 3,” In addition to his role as a producer, he has worked as a production manager for films such as “Doctor Strange,” “Southpaw,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Smurfs,” The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and others.

Not only is he a talented producer, Baratta is an esteemed musician as well. After graduating from Wagner College, he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a jazz musician.

Kikoski, who was born in Milltown, New Jersey, was first taught how to play the piano by his father at the age of six. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance.

After graduating from Berklee, he moved to New York City where he played alongside renowned artists such as Roy Haynes, Bob Berg, Red Rodney, Randy Brecker, and many others.

In 1986, he secured his first recording session on Randy Brecker’s album, “In the Idiom”. He was joined by Joe Henderson, Ron Carter, and Al Foster.

Since then, has played on over 100 records and won the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble.

Goetz boats an extensive musical career as well and has worked with Ira Sullivan, Steve Slagle, Pete Minger, Ray Vega, Ron Carter, Alice Day, Vic Juris, John Basile, Joe Puma, Dave Stzyker, Joe Beck, David Amram, as well as the Lou Anderson Big Band.
