City Council to host hearing on Astoria Borealis

City Council's

On Monday morning, the City Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection will be discussing how the “Astoria Borealis” occurred at the end of last year.

As we all saw on December 27, a blown transformer at the Con Edison substation along 20th Avenue lit up the night sky with this blue light.

While it caused many jokes about an alien invasion and some truly spectacular content on social media, residents were rightfully concerned about their safety and health.

The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Con Edison representatives are set to testify on what exactly happened that night. The hearing will be held inside City Council chambers, and can be live-streamed here.
