The MTA will install netting under the elevated train tracks on the N/W lines between Queensboro Plaza and 39th Avenue.

This is a pilot program to test whether the netting will capture potential hazards such as loose debris, while also allowing regular inspections of the tracks.

According to the MTA, the location was chosen because of the curvature of the tracks and the condition of the structure.

The netting will be approximately 600 feet long and 50 feet wide, for a total of 30,000 square feet of coverage.

New York City Transit conducts weekly track inspections, as well as visual inspections of tracks from the street level monthly. They also do an inspection of the steel structures annually.
