RIOULT Dance NY names new executive director

RIOULT Dance NY has a new leader at the helm.

Last week, the dance company named announced Jane R. Penn as their new executive director.

Her appointment coincided with the opening of the RIOULT Dance Center in Astoria, an 11,000-square-foot facility housing the dance company.

Penn began her career training as a dancer at The School of American Ballet, and later at the Joffrey Ballet School.

An injury sidelined her career on stage, so she switched over to arts management. Penn has spent 25 years in the nonprofit sector, starting with an internship at the Limon Dance Company.

She would later consult for The Foundation Center’s First Steps/Next Steps program for under-resources organizations.

Penn held an eight-year tenure at The Studio Museum in Harlem, working under the leadership of director Thelma Golden. She spearheaded a seven-year partnership with Target during this time.

While serving as the director of development at The Joyce Theater, Penn designed two initiatives: JoycePass and PayWhatYouDecide.

“We are so fortunate to call Astoria home,” Penn said. “There is a vibrancy and authenticity in the neighborhood that begs for a creative enterprise such as ours.”
