Costa picks up new endorsements in BP bid

Councilman Costa Constantinides, a candidate for Queens borough president, has earned the endorsement of a leading progressive organization and a former candidate for attorney general.

New York Communities for Change is backing Constantinides in the race for borough president after working together to pass the Climate Mobilization Act, dubbed New York City’s version of Green New Deal.

“Costa has proven he will stand up to Big Real Estate to fight for affordability and climate justice,” said Jonathan Westin, NYCC’s executive director.

Constantinides says he has vowed to block any land use application city land that isn’t 100 percent affordable or lacks a labor component. He will also assess under-utilized, city-owned land to see where more affordable housing and hospitals can be built.

The Astoria councilman has also been endorsed by Zephyr Teachout, a law professor and anti-corruption expert who previously ran for governor, attorney general and Congress.

“Costa has proven himself as a progressive leader with a vision for the future and the ability to deliver on those plans,” Teachout said.
