BioBus will have permanent site at Astoria Houses

The science education nonprofit BioBus is building a permanent site at the Astoria Houses.

The new lab comes after years of partnership between BioBus and the NYCHA development, as well as other neighborhood schools and the Variety Boys and Girls Club.

Councilman Costa Constantinides allocated $304,000 as a down payment to build the mobile lab, which will have research-grade microscopes, solar arrays and other cool technology.

The permanent lab is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

It’s a great opportunity to get young students interested in science, and hopefully it will create that spark that leads them on a path toward lifelong curiosity and learning in STEM fields.
