Ready for Independence Day

photo2Astoria Park is spruced up and ready to go for the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition’s Annual Independence Day Celebration on Monday, June 30 on the Great Lawn.

The Parks Department recently manicured the overgrown lawn, trimmed the trees and put a fresh coat of paint on the benches in preparation for the thousands expected to attend this year.

This year the music act includes the Queens Symphony Orchestra scheduled for 7:30 p.m., followed by the legendary fireworks sponsored by Grucci.

George Stamatiades, the president of Central Astoria, thanked the Parks Department for their dedicated work for the celebration.

“Astoria Park is a jewel thanks to the efforts of the hard working men and women of the Parks Department here in Astoria Park,” Stamatiades said.

Central Astoria also hosts a carnival in the park from June 26 -29, the Waterfront Concert Series on Thursdays at 7:30PM starting July 1; and the Movies on the Waterfront Series on Monday evenings starting July 28.
