New ferry service to come to Astoria in 2017

proposed-ferry-service-537x651Starting in 2017, the East River Ferry will have a new route with landings and services to Astoria, the Rockaways, South Brooklyn, Soundview and the Lower East Side.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the expanded ferry service across the five boroughs in his State of the City address on Tuesday.

The plan will cost $55 million and the Mayor said will expand to Coney Island and Stapleton in Staten Island once more more can be allocated to the project.

According to the Mayor, the new ferry service will cost the same as a subway ride.

The Astoria line will stop at Long Island City, Roosevelt Island, East 34th Street and Pier 11/Wall Street.
