In August, Mayor de Blasio announced a new Anchor Parks initiative that would give funding to large neighborhood parks. Astoria Park was selected as one of five, and was allocated $30 million as part of the initiative.

Councilman Constantinides said the Parks Department will meet with local residents to decide how that money will be spent.

That meeting has now been announced. On Wednesday, November 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bohemian Hall (29-19 24th Avenue), residents will be able to share their ideas with park officials.

“The Anchor Park $30 million investment for Astoria Park will transform our neighborhood’s vital greenspace,” Constantinides said. “The funding will bring historic improvements to the playing fields, playgrounds, and lawns.”

“This workshop is an opportunity for residents to share their ideas on how the $30 million allocation can improve the park’s use of space to benefit all Astorians,” he added. “It is also an integral first step in the capital project process – the design and construction phases will not begin until after public input is heard.”
