Variety Boys and Girls Club, Michaels team up for “Make Space”

Earlier this month, Michaels unveiled a new creative and artistic “Michaels MAKE Space” at the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens.

The newly-renovated space, an extension of Michaels’ three-year partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of America, will provide a space for thousands of kids each year to explore their creative and artistic sides.

At about 1,000 square feet, the MAKE Space has all the arts and crafts supplies any kid needs. It has new furniture including art tables, chairs, cabinets, as well as a cork board wall, freshly painted walls, ceilings and floors.

“Our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America is truly exciting for us, as it provides all of us here at Michaels the opportunity to help nourish critical youth development and provide an opportunity for club members to confidently explore and discover their creative voices,” says Holly Shaskey-Platek, senior vice president of human resources at Michaels.

Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, said the new MAKE Space will empower kids and teens to make, think and dream “in color.”

“Together, we will enable all young people of Queens, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential and find their path to a great future,” Clark said.
