Pol secures funding for Queensbridge

Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer last week announced $1.35 million of funding for various projects at Queensbridge Houses.

The funding includes nearly $500,000 for Urban Upbound for youth development and employment services, over $425,000 to the Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement House for senior programs, and $300,000 for the beautification of outdoor spaces.

“You name it, we have so much stuff here,” Van Bramer said.

Additional funding will be going to the Queens Public Library Tech Lab at Queensbridge, the Floating Hospital, and school conflict resolution programs.

Over twenty seniors welcomed the councilman to the Jacob Riis House for the announcement.

“This center has been here before I was even born, and I’ve been here for 57 years,” said Apirl Simpson, president of the Queensbridge Tenants Association. “This funding will help an array of programs at this community center.”
