David Villa, Queensboro FC to host fan event in Astoria

Here’s your chance to meet soccer legend David Villa and learn more about Queensboro FC, the first professional soccer team in Queens.

On Wednesday, February 5, from 4 to 6 p.m., Villa will host a fan event at the Upper 90 Soccer Center, located at 34-23 38th Street.

The event is part of the club’s ongoing community outreach. Villa will scrimmage with local youth players as part of the event.

Villa, the Spanish national team’s all-time leading scorer, is a founding partner of Queensboro FC, which will kick off in 2021. The club will play in the United Soccer League (USL).

Villa’s resume speaks for itself. He scored 59 goals for the Spanish team, and was part of the team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

He scored more than 425 goals in his career, and has won the UEFA European Championship in 2008, UEFA Champions League in 2011, and three La Liga titles in 2010-2011, 2012-2013, and 2013-2014.

Villa later played for New York City FC before retirement.

This won’t be the soccer star’s first trip to Astoria. In June 2017, he announced that he was bringing his DV7 Soccer Academy to the Upper 90 Soccer Store. He also practiced with youth players on that day.
