Last month, the Astoria Park South Volleyball  Club  (the official volleyball program of the Variety Boys & Girls Club) earned the gold medal in the Garden  Empire Volleyball Association 16U tournament.

Held at The Masters School in Westchester,  NY, the tournament included eight teams  separated into two pool plays. APSVBC went 2- 1 in their pool, taking a loss to Legacy Premier  in an extremely nail-biting three sets.

After battling it out in the playoff rounds, the  two teams came face to face again to play for  gold. APSVBC took the final win in just two sets, winning 25-21, 25-16, earning the gold medal.

“I am extremely proud of every single girl that is a part of Astoria Park South Volleyball Club. They are all dedicated and talented. They continue to make not just me, but our neighborhood proud every day,” said coach and club director Danielle Destefano.

The girls are also coming off of a 5th place rank at the Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival held annually at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, which included teams from all over the United States and Canada.

This is the club’s first official season playing together. A majority of the girls on the team are 13-15 years old, playing up at the 16U Level.

APSVBC trains weekly at The Variety Boys and Girls Club in Astoria, Queens, where they are preparing for the GEVA Regionals in April.
