Tonight, the Museum of the Moving Image is hosting the third annual UnCaged Toy Piano Festival. The festival is dedicated to musical pieces and performers on the toy piano. The toy, which was invented in 1872 for education reasons, is treasured for its whimsical sounds. It was transformed into a concert instrument in John Cage’s 1947 “Suite for Toy Piano.”

This year, people from different backgrounds will come together to celebrate the toy instrument and inject their own unique spin on the music. The event begins at 7 p.m.

Performances include:
Edges by Christina Oorebeek and Ester Eva Damen, performed by Adam Tendler
Kalimba by Karlheinz Essl and students of Bettina Negy-Rumpf, coached by Thomas Renoldner, performed by Tristan McKay
Curios (selections) by Phyllis Chen and Rob Dietz, performed by Margaret Leng Tan
Nos Queda el Aire by Y No Habia Luz
Snow (selections), by John Glover and Jordan Morley, performed by Phyllis Chen
Five Pieces by Danny Clay and students of Zion Lutheran School
