Tomorrow at 4 p.m., NYCHA is announcing the start of construction on a $88 million recovery and resiliency project at the Astoria Houses, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This will be the third major funded project as part of a $3 billion FEMA grant for Sandy recovery assistance. It was secured after three years of negotiations and support from New York’s Congressional Delegation and Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The project will include roof replacements, stand-by generators for back-up power and security upgrades for the 3,100 residents of Astoria Houses.

The groundbreaking will take place at 27-05 1st Street, on the corner of 27th Avenue at 4 p.m.
