Gianaris’s office hit with hate graffiti again

New GraffitiThe vandal has struck again.

State Senator Michael Gianaris reported on Monday that his district office building in Astoria has been hit with hate graffiti for the third time this month.

The message appears to be the same each time: linking former President Barack Obama’s name with an anti-gay slur.

“It is clear this bigot is trying to send a message of intolerance to our community, but it will not work,” Gianaris said in a statement. “I am confident the NYPD will apprehend the person committing these disturbing acts and I am thankful for their continued efforts.”

“It will take more than a bigot with a magic marker to stop me from fighting for the values of tolerance and inclusiveness.”

Gianaris’s office is located at 31-19 Newtown Avenue. Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas shares the same office building.

According to Gianaris, the 114th Precinct will increase patrol around the building. The NYPD encourages anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

The perpetrator is believed to be a “white or light-skin Hispanic male” between 30 to 40 years old and is left-handed, according to the police description of the suspect.

A police report has been filed and the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is reviewing the new security footage as part of an ongoing investigation.

In the meantime, be on the lookout if you’re near that office building. You may just find the perp lurking with a spray can ready to strike once again.
