State Senator Michael Gianaris, center, speaks at a press conference.

If you’re a high school student interested in government or public service, this is an opportunity for you.

State Senator Michael Gianaris is inviting current high school students to apply for a spring internship at his district office in Astoria. The program will provide a “unique, meaningful experience,” Gianaris’s office said.

Interns will help coordinate events, handle office tasks and participate in public service activities.

“My first steps in public service involved working for our local legislators, where I gained experience and learned how to better serve my community,” Gianaris said. “Today, I use those same skills to represent our district and have the privilege of offering the same opportunities to today’s young students.”

“I encourage anyone with an interest in government to get involved and learn the ropes early in life,” he added.

Gianaris, now the Deputy Leader for New York State Democrats, was a former aide to Congressman Thomas Manton. He represents Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Ridgewood and Woodhaven.

If interested, email your resume to gianaris@nysenate.gov. Interested applicants will be interviewed.
